A Pink Velvet Christmas!
One day I fell in love with this girl... Velvet!
I also fell in love with her pink blanket...
So Corinne, Velvet’s mommy decided to make me a pillow!

“I live in London, Ontario. I have a lovely whippet named Velvet Undergrad III. She was given to me from a breeder at an annual dog show in 1997! I believe I was in the right place at the right time. I truly adore the whippet as a pet. I really wanted to have a greyhound, but when I saw the smaller sized sighthound packaged as a whippet...I just could not resist.
In Feb 2005 my whippet Velvet suffered a (multi-focal) Fibro- Cartilagenous Embolism Stroke. When it happened she fell down stairs and could not even move. Her left side was affected; hemi-paresis. Temporarily though!! We were both traumatized by her inability to get up and walk in the very beginning. I rehabilitated her almost non-stop for the next 7 dys. She was shaky & weak, but standing; taking baby steps by the 5th day. She could walk again by 2 wks time. The veterinarian said that Velvet made an amazing recovery, and that most dog owners would have euthan...oh heck, I can't even say that word!
Velvet is no longer able to run really fast like she was used to, she looses her footing. Plus, she has to think of placing her front left paw down for each step she takes. It's kind of sad in a way because she has lost most of her muscle tone and that is why she looks very thin now. Some people think I do not feed her, however, that is clearly the wrong impression because they do not know her health story.I understand the affects of a stroke and how it makes one weak, whether they be a human or dog. Even as a slightly disabled whippet, I still have her with me to love and take care of. Isn't that just the best?”

Rui Paes & Madonna's Lotsa de Casha auction
Books auctioned in Portugal in aid of Acreditar
On Thursday 07 December between 11:30am and 2:00pm, at the Amoreiras Centre in Lisbon, a selection of different children's books by Madonna (all in the Portuguese translation) and signed by the author, were auctioned in aid of 'Acreditar' – an Association based in Lisbon which supports children suffering from cancer and their families.
As well as the books (10 in total), 7 very large posters and 3 large, full size, cut-out figures reproduced from Madonna's fifth book 'Lotsa de Casha' with illustrations by Rui Paes, were also be auctioned.
Each of the 7 posters consist of a large, full size, image of 'Lotsa' sporting a plumed hat and carrying toys, and the 3 cut-out figures are 'Lotsa' (shown below), 'The Wise Old Man' and 'Sun And Clouds'.
These posters and cut-out figures were used during Rui Paes's exhibition of the original watercolours for Madonna's book 'Lotsa de Casha', which took place last October, at Teatro Sao Carlos, in Lisbon.

No prĆ³ximo dia 7 de Dezembro entre as 11:30 e as 14 horas, terĆ” lugar no Amoreiras Shopping Center, um leilĆ£o de um conjunto de 10 livros infantis da autoria de Madonna e autografados pela cantora, cuja receita reverte integralmente a favor da Acreditar – AssociaĆ§Ć£o de Pais e Amigos de CrianƧas com Cancro.
O evento realiza-se no dia de abertura da tradicional Banca de Natal desta AssociaĆ§Ć£o (7 a 10 de Dezembro) para angariaĆ§Ć£o de fundos, e contarĆ” com presenƧa de vĆ”rios convidados entre os quais o ilustrador do livro “Pipas de Massa”, Rui Paes, e tem o apoio das PublicaƧƵes D.Quixote e da Mundicenter.
Para alĆ©m dos livros, serĆ£o tambĆ©m leiloados 7 posters oferecidos por Rui Paes, que reproduzem os seus desenhos para o livro “Pipas de Massa” e trĆŖs figuras de visita.
Todas as pessoas, singulares ou colectivas, que estejam interessadas em participar no leilĆ£o e que nĆ£o possam estar presentes, poderĆ£o enviar as suas ofertas atravĆ©s de telefone, fax ou e-mail, atĆ© Ć s 12.00 horas do dia 6 de Dezembro.
